I am already enjoying the sound, however. I have bought a line level volume control that hopefully will give me more flexibility in controlling them and wrap up this project. The only downside was that because the AS 22 SC subs are being fed by the MAC 4100 preamp, the input signal volume to them increased to the point that it became necessary to crank their volume controls down to nearly the minimum in order to get them in balance with everything else. Addition of the Zeros allowed me to raise the overall volume a notch and to raise the 4100's bass and upper bass equalization to 12 o'clock. Running at 4 ohms, it was a bit difficult to control the bass volume emanating from the Plus E- I had to crank the XM-9's control nearly all the way down on some albums, and that was after the bass and upper bass equalization on the MAC 4100 had been cut to, say, 9 and 11 o'clock respectively. While McIntosh claims that the MAC 4100 can handle combinations of speakers with varying impedance, that is not the same thing as saying that this is ideal. Just wanted to note further improvement from installing two Zero Autoformers ( ) between the MAC 4100 and the Plus E subwoofer.
